One reason for putting on a showcase is to accumulate press clippings. Not only to send back to Dubuque -- but also to get a professional track record, and sometimes to entice commercial producers to see the show.
Anyone who has produced a showcase Off-Off-Broadway knows how tough it is to get clippings. We're glad that the participants in the second MITF got more than their share of clippings, as evidenced by the following samples.
Twenty-three shows garnered some 75 reviews or features, or more than three each -- three more than many Off-Off-Broadway shows get. (Fortunately, most of the reviews were positive, though the Festival can't guarantee that result.) Some two-dozen print publications or Web sites carried listings, often many times. All in all, being in the MITF, in addition to saving a lot of rent (another bane of the Off-Off- producer), brings in a lot of print!
(NOTE: All but the OOBR reviews require Acrobat Reader, available free on the Web. Alas, we can't do anything to make reading Acrobat files any faster.)
